Bangladesh: radical Islamic Group demands ban on Durga Puja holiday and idol immersions

A radical Islamic group, Insaf Keemkari Chhatra-Janta, has warned the Hindu community in Bangladesh against celebrating Durga Puja. They demanded that Hindus refrain from idol worship and immersions, citing reasons like environmental harm and disruption caused by the festival. The group also protested against the use of a public playground in Dhaka for Durga Puja, a place the Hindu community has used for many years.

Hindu Community faces rising threats

The group, holding placards, presented a list of 16 demands, including removing temples built on "occupied land" and having anti-India banners in temples. Reports of attacks on temples and idol destruction have increased, adding to the Hindu community’s concerns. Despite promises of protection by interim government leader Muhammad Yunus, the situation has worsened since Sheikh Hasina's removal.
